Review & Description

Review & Description

Harry Potter is an ordinary boy who lives in a cupboard under the stairs at his Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon's house, which he thinks is normal for someone like him who's parents have been killed in a 'car crash'. He is bullied by them and his fat, spoilt cousin Dudley, and lives a very unremarkable life with only the odd hiccup (like his hair growing back overnight!) to cause him much to think about. That is until an owl turns up with a letter addressed to Harry and all hell breaks loose! He is literally rescued by a world where nothing is as it seems and magic lessons are the order of the day. Read and find out how Harry discovers his true heritage at Hogwarts School of Wizardry and Witchcraft, the reason behind his parents mysterious death, who is out to kill him, and how he uncovers the most amazing secret of all time, the fabled Philosopher's Stone! All this and muggles too. Now, what are they? The amazing popularity of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone means that now even Muggles know about the Leaky Cauldron, Diagon Alley, and Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Whether or not you've read about Harry, this unabridged audiobook brings his world to life. Reader Jim Dale brings an excellent range of voices to the characters, from well-meaning Hermione's soft, earnest voice to Malfoy's nasal droning; from Professor McGonagall's crisp brogue to Hagrid's broad Somerset accent; and from snarling Mr. Filch to p-p-poor, st-tuttering P-Professor Quirrel. Some of the characterizations are peculiar--why do the centaurs have Welsh accents?--but that's a small price to pay to hear one of the myriad ways to sing the Hogwarts School song. Harry Potter fans of all ages--Muggle or not--will enjoy curling up with a few chocolate frogs, a box of Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans ("Alas! Ear wax!"), and this marvelous, magical audiobook. (Running time: 8 hours, 6 cassettes) --Sunny Delaney Read more

The Little Rednecks and a Town Full of Bullies (Special Edition) (The Little Rednecks Children's Fantasy)
The Little Rednecks and a Town Full of Bullies (Special Edition) (The Little Rednecks Children's Fantasy) (Kindle Edition)
By T. Denise Robinson

Review & Description

Ten years ago, Joee Alexander’s grandfather used magic to hide a mysterious silver case inside the #7 Coal Mine. The events of that fateful day will be revealed on her thirteenth birthday and there is nothing he can do to stop it.

Joee and her three best friends, Stump, Wheels, and Sarah are physically challenged but that’s not all they have in common. They’re bullied on a daily basis and they each possess magic abilities they don’t know they have.

When they find an old map that shows underground tunnels leading to the #7 Coal Mine, they join forces to find what they believe is hidden treasure. Their adventure uncovers the truth about the mysterious case and their magical powers. It’s a set destiny that will pit them against a town full of bullies, a corrupt banker who isn’t what he seems, and Maulick, a man so evil, he cannot possibly be from their world.

The Little Rednecks is about the difficulties that physically challenged children face. It highlights the problem with stereotypes and shows bullying at its worst. It is a story about heart and dedication, and the friendship, dreams, and hopes of four physically challenged kids who prove that they really are like every other kid their age.

REVIEWS:

With a strong focus on bullying, Robinson manages to not only bring up the issue of bullying seamlessly in the story, but also creates disabled characters that are strong and heroic. It's great to finally see a book that doesn't approach disability with a simpering smile, and tackles the issue head on, with characters that are interesting and are in no way victims: Claire Chilton – Author of Whatever Became of the Squishies

The fantastic thing about The Little Rednecks is that not only is the book socially conscious, it's a thrilling adventure as well. I loved them because they are real. They are kids who make off-color jokes, who try to deal with the cruelty they encounter in their small town and at their school. They are not cardboard cutouts meant to "educate young readers," far from it. The setting is perfectly done, and the dialogue is funny and tender and exactly right in tone: Alison DeLuca – Author of The Night Watchman Express

As a former educator, I can see where this newly released piece of literary genius will become a classic on the shelves of libraries and classrooms, providing a great resource for further education in how to eradicate once and for all the terribly hurtful and damaging practice of Bullying: Clu Gallagher – Author of Shattered Seeds: Sophia’s Story

Magical Quotes and Words of Wisdom from Harry Potter (Kindle Edition)

Review & Description

J.k. Rowling's work is filled with wonderful quotes, like: “If you want to know what a man's like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals.” Or hilarious quotes: "Pity you can't attach an extra arm to yours [broom], Malfoy. Then it could catch the Snitch for you."

For all of life's ups and downs, its celebrations and its sorrows, here is a book to commemorate it all – especially for those not fully soothed by chicken soup. Witty and hilarious, it's a book with universal appeal. It contains hundreds of quotes from the popular series, and is beautifully formatted for Kindle.

Review & Description

This storybook was written in an exciting island style manner. It is about Essie's kids on the island of Jamaica and their unusual encounter with a rolling calf. This is number one of a five part series. This storybook is unique because it does not contain any of the usual common illustrations. It uses colorful words and exciting descriptions instead. By so doing, it helps the child to develop a powerful, cognitive, creative, and visionary mind. It also allows the story to be extended out to a very wide audience from ages 6 all the way up to their mid-teens and beyond. These books of the rolling calf's series all have another unique feature. There is a drawing/note pad at the end of each book that allows the reader to draw or demonstrate their own personal illustration of areas or characters in the story that stand out in their minds after the completion of the book. Finally, these books also end uniquely always with a strong moral story. Read more

Cross never forgives because he never forgets.

Haunted by the Hell of his past transgressions, he sets out on an epic journey across the underworld to paradise--not to frolic in the gardens with the righteous, but to drink from the river Lethe which causes complete forgetfulness.

He's a rare soul who remembers his life before death, known throughout the underworld as "The Man Who Remembers". There's a bounty on his memories, and envious spirits hunt his head to steal them.

Erasing his mind will get the spirits off his neck and allow him to keep his crown on its throne, but he will have to continue his afterlife in an ignorant bliss. Even more unfortunate for him, paradise is guarded by a great wall that annihilates any soul that gets too close. No member of the damned has ever broken in.

Burn in Hades is an action packed and fast-paced fantasy by Michael L. Martin Jr. It is the first book in The Life After Death Trilogy and is approximately 113,000 words long (about 400 printed pages). Cross never forgives because he never forgets.
